Israel quietly supports Assad. If the Ba'ath were overthrown Syria would fall under the sway of sunni fundamentalists - far worse than the current regime from Tel Aviv's perspective. So best to stick with the devil you know. Realpolitik leads to ironic decisions.

Besides Israel already has its hands full worrying about Egypt (an epic disaster in the making) and Iran.

Arab states will arm the rebels but thats it IMO. The noises to the contrary are just political posturing.
