Shiva's LanRover/8E PLUS Cited as 'A Perennial Winner' Among Remote Access
Servers
BEDFORD, Mass., Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Shiva Corporation (Nasdaq: SHVA)
today announced that Business Communications Review has named Shiva
LanRover(R)/8E PLUS the Best Overall Remote Access Server (RAS) and Most Full-
Featured Remote Access Product. "A perennial winner in RAS product tests,
Shiva again takes top honors... There are few features you'd want in a RAS
product that aren't in this one," stated the comparative review in the
publication's November issue.
Shiva LanRover/8E PLUS received the highest total score of the eight
midrange remote access servers tested and outranked its competition for
installation and ease of use, and for its full feature set. The review,
conducted by Mier Communications, a Princeton, N.J., network consultancy and
product test center, included products from Shiva, Cisco, 3Com/U.S. Robotics,
Bay Networks, Digital Equipment, Xyplex and RAD Data Communications. In
addition to installation/ease of use and features, the servers were judged on
the basis of configuration, management and administration, and performance.
The reviewers praised the Shiva LanRover/8E PLUS for having one of the
most intuitive and graphical interfaces and for being one of only two servers
that "supported bridging of the vintage but still popular NetBEUI protocol_
Shiva's support for NetBEUI bridging is complete, over both client dial-in and
LAN-to-LAN dialup connections."
Among the features of Shiva LanRover/8E PLUS, Mier Communications
specifically cited its "sophisticated built-in user database software, which
even supports multiple LanRover servers." The review also noted, "The Shiva
Net Manager software is slick, intuitive and easy to use" and was one of the
two most effective products for remote access monitoring and management.
Shiva LanRover/8E PLUS was also cited for its "superb" online documentation.
"Our top priority at Shiva has always been to provide the highest-quality
remote access products," said Dan McCall, senior director, product
management/product marketing for Shiva. "In a market as competitive and
rapidly changing as remote access, it is very gratifying to be called 'a
perennial winner.' We are indeed very pleased to receive this latest in a
series of comparative product reviews."
