You got me curious so I looked up the family home on Zillow; they've got it at $583k peaked at over $800k. My parents paid $22K around 1954, sold for $25K in the early 70's I think, and within a couple of years it was worth $50k. In Oak Park, IL which Hemingway famously called "the Village of broad lawns and narrow minds". I remember thinking at the time "WTF!". On the other hand at that age I did most of my thinking with a different body part.
