Steve: Well, now .. wait a minute ... let's take a real close look at the contract announcement ...

>>According to this proposal, the value of the work to be contracted to COGNICASE and its partners is estimated to exceed $50 million over the next four years.<<

Hmmmm ... I don't see anything in there that says COGIF will receive $50 million dollars. They'll have to share it with their partners. And, over 4 years ... hmmm ... that's a long time.

And, it says work to be contracted ... not yet, I guess?

It seems like the market should have reacted strongly today at about 1:00 EST, doesn't it? But, it didn't.

Still looking for 6'ish.

Cognicase contracts with National Defence (Canada).

Here's the full release - perhaps a pre-cursor to contracts with other militaries and aerospace firms ???

NOVEMBER 25, 1997

COGNICASE Announces Year 2000 Compliance Contracts Award
for the Department of National Defence of Canada (DND)

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--COGNICASE Inc. is pleased to announce that it
has been awarded in partnership with Oerlikon Aerospace (OA) and
SMART CITIES Le Bastion, of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, two
standing-offer contracts by Public Works and Government Services
Canada (PWGSC) for the delivery of solutions to make the systems
of the Department of National Defence of Canada (DND) Year 2000
compliant.

The two contracts awarded cover respectively the following
Application Domain Categories: i) Command, Control, Communications
and Intelligence Systems; and, ii) Weapons Systems and Battlefield
Surveillance Systems. COGNICASE and its partners have proposed a
comprehensive solution based on substantial specialized manpower,
adapted software tool-set, efficient processes, facilities and
equipment to address DND's Year 2000 readiness in these two
Application Domain Categories. According to this proposal, the
value of the work to be contracted to COGNICASE and its partners
is estimated to exceed $50 million over the next four years.

COGNICASE is proud to have been chosen by DND for this major
contract. "Having been selected by the Canadian Government for
its critical military systems confirms the leadership of COGNICASE
and its partners Oerlikon Aerospace and SMART CITIES in the
delivery of reliable, cost-effective and comprehensive solutions
to the Year 2000 readiness challenge," as stated by Ronald
Brisebois, President and CEO of COGNICASE. "This testimony of
COGNICASE's superior capabilities for Year 2000 complex projects
will be leveraged to support our current intensive marketing
activities abroad and especially in the U.S.A," he added.

COGNICASE is a leading provider of automated software maintenance
solutions that enables organizations to convert their computer
systems in response to a change or expected change in the business
or technical environment in which the systems operate, or to
migrate their computer systems to newer hardware platforms. In
1994, Cognicase released COGNI-2000, a comprehensive, flexible
software tool set aimed at solving the Year 2000 problem.
Cognicase completed its first automated end-to-end Year 2000
conversion in 1994 for a leading Canadian financial institution.
To date, Cognicase, together with its strategic partners, has
completed more than 30 end-to-end Year 2000 software conversions
and more than 100 additional Year 2000 assessments, for a total of
more than 100 customers.

Oerlikon Aerospace (OA) is one of Canada's leading defence systems
integrators with extensive experience in the areas of Command,
Control, Communications and Intelligence and related systems. Le
Bastion, located at the former "College Militaire Royal de Saint-
Jean" is a non-profit organization established to provide common
services including system engineering and training capabilities to
