No. Oracle would never entrust core technology (such as an ORB) of the Oracle Application Server to a third-party supplier such as Visigenic. That was true both before and after the announcement. So, Oracle only licenses the client side from Visigenic. However, the real value add here is on the server which Oracle is building for itself. On the other hand, the reference to Oracle as a partner implies a much deeper relationship between Oracle and Visigenic than is really there. For Netscape, I have no knowledge of what the future will hold for the Visigenic relationship. But, KIva is an application server that will run on top on an ORB. Kiva formerly packaged VisiBroker with its application server but has more recently switched to package Iona's Orbix. At the same time, Kiva's application server will still run on top of VisiBroker. So, that shows the potential for changing from one ORB to another as the choice for embedding. Now what might Netscape do in the future ????? Do you have any ideas ????? But consider: Visigenic's work on developing the OTS technology is targeted at delivering something like an "object application server" . Product wise, that will be the real value add for the Visigenic product line and not the basic ORB itself. Now, that "object application server" sounds just a bit like the "application server" that runs on top of an ORB that Netscape announced yesterday it plans to acquire with Kiva. What do you think ?????? Will Netscape need both ???????
