Is the MVIS projector small enough to fit in the current iPhone footprint?
No.
If not isn't the best we can hope for is an Apple made or approved addon? Which still would be pretty nice, but only if it used something from MVIS, which is still a long shot.
MicroVision's SHOWWX+ has been available in many countries' on-line Apple Stores as an addon for quite some time:

MicroVision SHOWWX+ Laser Pico Projector - Apple Store (UK)

MicroVision SHOWWX+ Laser Pico Projector - Apple Store (United Arab Emirates)

MicroVision SHOWWX+ Laser Pico Projector - Apple Store (Republic of Ireland)

And so on.

Has not improved MicroVision's bottom line.

Why would Apple enter a clearly failing addon projector market, unless they can fit the projector inside the iPhone or iPad, on their own?
