But let me explain. I did not have in mind today's powerful heavy handed redistributionist regimes. I had in mind a situation when the government's powers over individuals would be far lower. Like Muslims, who like to talk about how wonderful things were in their community during the time of the Prophet, so we can think back to the earlier part of American history - when government was much more local, and the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were fresh and new. It may be possible to re-direct the great American experiment back towards those principles. If the States would become more assertive, that could be the first step. The entire subject that we are discussing is important, imo, but for you and me - personally - somewhat theoretical. The odds that we will find ourselves living either under a regime of Tradeable Citizenship - or, smaller government and greater rights for individuals - are... poor. The governments would fight back. For example, all it would take to introduce Tradeable Citizenship is simply to allow people to sell theirs. As simple as that. Before long we would know if there is a market, and what is the price. But this will not happen - given a chance, the politicians would rather create an unlimited number of citizenships, and sell them and collect the money. When I called your project social engineering, I didn;t mean it in a derogatory sense. But hey, it's a big project, if it were to become reality, it would be quite revolutionary. It would change the entire planet.... for better or worse.... :)
