Completely agree... and it would be nice if govt stopped insuring deposits when things stabilize... THEN you could deregulate most banks. Clearly what has happened over time is many banks have used that insurance for the low cost borrowing it provides and pushed to move as far out on the "risk profile curve" as they could as this provides higher expected returns given the truncated downside. Given insured deposits of today the banks should be more highly regulated or this will simply keep happening.
