You have heard correctly ... the leadtime for 248nm scanners (used for
.18um) is about 18 months, while the leadtime on the 193nm scanners (used
for .13um -> .10um) is about 24+ months. However, the large vendors
(Nikon, SVGL ...) will let companies "get in line" for a tool without
putting any money down. About 9 - 12 months before delivery, then a purchase
order needs to be completed. BTW, you can cancel an order while in line
without much of a penalty.
