actually, since 1980 the three GOPpresidents increased annual federal spending at much faster rates than the two Dem presidents. In point of fact, Obama has increased annual spending at the lowest rate of growth of any of the past five presidents,--i did not go back further in the past --and the rate of annual increase under Obama was about 1/5 of the annual rate of increase as under GWB, even though Obama inherited a serious mess from GWB.

>> Yes, one of the most insane approaches to governance.

There are 2 parties to a government shutdown. Just depends which side you are on.

The Democrats are willing to shutdown the government in order to maintain and increase spending.

When and where have Dems shutdown the gov't so they can continue to spend?

The Republicans are willing to shutdown the government to reduce spending.

And why in God's name do you think that's a rational approach to governance?

Admittedly, the public's appetite for services paid for with borrowed money have given the Democrat's the upper hand.

The money didn't have to be borrowed if we didn't start two wars while cutting taxes.
