Analysts have said that they expect Newbridge to sell UB Networks to 3Com in a deal that would have 3Com resell Newbridge's wide-area-networking switches. Some also expect the Vivid product line to be thrown in since it also has been a disappointment."

Jim, this paragraph from the article you posted sounds interesting.

COMS seems to be forming some pretty significant alliances these days - Seiman, NewBridge and MCI. And incidentally NewBridge and MCI are alliances with the Canadian Stentor Alliance of all Provincial Phone companies. Now WorldCom merging with MCI will form a $30 billion revenue huge company (vs. AT&T. with $52 billion revenue).

It's getting very complicated. Hope Eric B's stretegies will work out exactely as planned - or it could already be well ahead of his projections.
