I'm a fan of TENS.

When you've got physical issues, it's good to have many modalities to choose from - everything has its limitations and carefully trying different things eventually something works :-).

For me, when I tore my rotator, by the time I went to PT much of my pain was gone and I restored some strength because I used TENS and the therapist was amazed especially after viewing the scary MRI. For hamstrings, it solved the final stage of an issue that I had for so many years.

You really need to learn how to use TENS and be careful using it though. As with most things you can hurt yourself badly if you use this incorrectly - like handling electrodes when the unit is on (ha ha - shocking, you learn that one fast) or placing the electrodes in the wrong configuration. The rules are simple though.

If I may suggest, I have this unit, it is really good, and it seems to be best of all the under-$100 units that I've looked at :

amazon.com
overstock.com

or search for TENS 7000looks like price went down a lot since i bought it...

There's also this one which is similar but includes EMS:
overstock.com

It has several modes, two channels, and rotary dials to control intensity (I don't think a push button, on other models, for intensity is very good), and a little door on top so that the intensity isn't changes accidentally. You can change modes and parameters while using it making it more effective.

The electrodes wear out or dry out with use,but you can extend their use by putting a little ultrasound gel on them. Electrodes are not expensive, a dollar or so, you can get many different sizes, the unit comes (should come) with a pair but sometimes you want to get a little more use and the gel more than doubles the electrode usability...
