Yes, there was one month where job losses hit 700K but at no time was that typical. While deficits were bad, that isn't to be unexpected during a time of war and given all the other stuff Bush was having to deal with. Also, he came in to a fairly sharp recession, followed immediately by a massive attack against our country's financial center -- one which essentially decimated it -- and had to take action to prevent further attacks, which we seem to have forgotten about.
