I did not mean the patents necessary to be standard-compliant. I'm referring to the whistles and bells --- all those upgrades that take it from stripped down with black-walls to automatic-everything with leather seats and burl dash.

Even with the standard, I think any company would have an easier time negotiating with Amati than with a direct competitor. There aren't many left to license, but for Orckit and any others, I would imagine they wish they'd acted sooner.

Just my take.
