If you want to make it even more confusing:

What is heavier: 50 kilos of nails or 50 kilos of water?

ans: the nails.

Due to the hidden variable
(I've got a big magnet under the nails)

True because they both have the same mass.

Also, the water bucket has a leak.

50 pounds of nails vs 50 pounds of water with a big magnet?
They weigh the same, it's stated they're both 50 pounds, and I assume measured now.
take the magnet away and... oh these trick questions!

If you don't like the hidden variable, then the subtle variable:

If the nails are stacked higher than the water, then the water is heavier, since gravitation force decreases by the square of the distance from the center of the planet, and the nails higher up will weigh less, assuming you ponied up the big bucks to buy a scale that can measure enough sig digits.

Even better with no tricks or hidden variables-
a) 50 kilos of nails (measured on Earth)
b) 50 kilos of water (measured on Earth)

Take the nails to the moon.

Which has less mass - a) or b) or are they the same?

(ans: same - but the weight is now different)

Now don't get me started with warpage of space or I'll throw some strange particles at you with extremely high velocity and charm.
