Interesting that "Galt's gulch" was located in Colorado. And that a major oil discovery had been found there. Rand had that one right.

We were relocated here 17 years ago from San Diego. We love it here and don't miss the S.Cal crowds. The only downer is driving home from the mountains after a ski Sunday. In fact there's snow on the ground now...oh wait there are areas of 2' of hail from last night.

Back in 1988, we were leaving the DC area. I had a job offer in Denver. My wife's brother and his wife lived in Genesee. We looked at houses in Genesee, Evergreen and Golden. But in the end, we concluded we'd ultimately want to end up someplace with salt water, so we passed and ended up in Seattle.

Alan, there's a fascinating parallel there with my own experience.

In 1957 I was living in New Jersey where I had been born and raised. My wife fell in love with the west when she worked in Yellowstone a couple of summers during college and I always promised her we would move west someday.

I had a huge box full of stuff from Chambers of Commerce from all over the western states. We also boiled it down to between Seattle and Denver, and made the difficult choice of Denver based on the higher incidence of rainy days in Seattle. As beautiful as that area is we opted for the drier climate and more sunshine in Colorado.

We moved ourselves without a firm job offer and the job I was kind of counting on with Coors Porcelain Co (since spun off from the brewery) fell through when they lost a government contract for some ceramic insulators and the company put on a hiring freeze.

Any lady folk here who happen to know if they still make Noreen color hair rinse? Powder in gelatin capsules that you dissolved in water and applied post-shower. Eight different shades. That's who I wound up working for for a few years prior to eventually joining what became Lockheed Martin during the transition between Titan I and Titan II.
