The economy would probably have contracted a bit more in 2009 and recovered to somewhat lower levels than today. The deficits incurred would have been somewhat lower, but still problematic.

The ultimate conundrum given our record low interest rates anyway. Deleveraging from the bubble and financial crisis all a big part of the natural business cycle takes closer to a decade not a couple months or years. The timing of Obamacare was wrong and way too much energy on both sides devoted to it in a time where jobs should have been the number one focus.

Am I the only one who feels it is critical to create drivers to a more solid middle class that continues to be hollowed out or that our bloated military industrial complex consumes way too much of gdp and crowds out both public and private sector investment that has a much better multiplier effect and social good for the citizens at home?

McCain would most likely be a one term president with unemployment hovering closer to 10% as Dems took back Congress in 2011 more itchy than ever to get back the whitehouse but still not being as obstructionist as the GOP has been with Obama.
