You are right, and they are going to screw up big time.
Check this.
Gold fell after Eddie George, governor of the Bank of England,
said he would be "very surprised" if the European Union's planned
central bank kept large amounts of gold in its strategic reserves. His
comments echoed recent sentiment of other European banking officials.
The central bank will conduct monetary policy for the single European
currency, scheduled to debut in 1999.
