I wonder if you could buy an refurbed iPhone to activate with Cricket. I see no reason why they would care if you walked in with your own CDMA iPhone. Those will become more plentiful this fall when people start trading them in for the iPhone 5.
I did exactly that, with my free, hand me down iPhone, on T-Mobile. Same exact phone only bare bones contract I had with my POS Samsung dumb phone, all the bennies of the WiFi iPhone apps added, for free. Plus, it charges off my MBP via USB, saving me charger luggage space. LOVE IT! :-)))

I was stunned when ATT's CEO apologized for offering unlimited data for free when the iPhone.
They never did offer unlimited data for free. As I recall, the data plan for my original iPhone cost 20 bucks a month. That seems like a bargain now, but it wasn't free.
