The problem is someone has to lose under that scenario so how becomes the sacrificial lamb?

The little guy, of course...

But only if they don't have the patience to hold for the long term.. (will be the explanation)..

That SPX monthly chart is pretty compelling when it comes to showing tops and bottoms along it's bollinger bands. So we can swing in between 1400 and 1150 without doing any major
technical damage. But the problem (opportunity) with a Bollinger Band "pinch", which is especially rare on a monthly chart, is that the following move is likely to be extremely massive.

And the past history of the SPX indicates this kind of BB pinch in 2001, 2008, and this year, and in all cases it resulted in a hard sell-off.
