I read somewhere that 80% of health care costs are due to 5% of the people in this country. So all these great plans for reforming health care are just BS. The only reform we need is to start measuring whether you are in that 5% or not and charging more insurance premiums for the 5%. That's a free market solution. I'm sure it will offend everyone's sensibilities, but it pretty crazy to have millions suffer from the burden of health care costs they can't afford, simply because we have 5% of the people in this country making it a burden on everyone else.

That is called the tyranny of the minority. But the minority is about to become the majority with all these obese Americans. I can't walk outside without seeing 2 out of every 3 kids overweight. Maybe we need a fat tax. Anything with more than 1/3 saturated fats or anything heavy in sugar should get taxed at 100%, with the proceeds going to fund health care costs. That's another free market solution guaranteed to offend sensibilities. :)

But hell, don't ban sodas or Big Macs. Just make a soda cost or Big Mac cost $10 and then see how many people start switching to healthier foods. Everyone got mad at Bloomberg, but maybe he's on to something.
