Meteorites do strike the earth most do not make it that far ... the largest bombardments were either all absorbed or ordered into orbits several billion yrs ago but when one planet killer does come we always have Bruce Willis , Hollywood & the US military to call on . Though the chances of one striking the earth now are about as slim as greg becoming Lady Gaga's lover, anything can happen but would think alien abduction & anal probes much greater concern and shows a tendency for the same type of apocalyptic alarmism . The idea of apocaplypse was being discussed, of how such allusions & use of fear as a powerful propaganda tactic for swaying general popular belief with reinforcing imagery of an end thats drawing near. The appeal of most religion is based on this innate fear of death which for every man woman child of the village is an apocalypse & the exclusion from that off world promised meeting ground where everyone is united again . This is where such belief sysytems become an industry of self sustaining cult delusion which makes "hope" the great salvation , who holds the keys & dispenses hope also sits in the high chair , so give the man some robes & magic staffs and all quake with hope & fear. And beware the witches , evil aliens & the ravaging lycans ....
