If the government takes up robbing mortgagees, they might find a LOT of people start to default on their mortgages to get a piece of the action. That will exacerbate the problems they are trying to ameliorate.

When governments conduct lolly-scrambles, lots of people show up for the fun.

Perhaps house prices have a long way to fall still with that kind of muck going on.
