Hi Christine, I found this after I posted about the Winter Solstice.

"The night of December 25, to which date the Nativity of Christ was ultimately assigned, was exactly that of the birth of the Persian savior Mithra, who, as an incarnation of eternal light, was born the night of the winter solstice (then dated December 25) at midnight, the instant of the turn of the year from increasing darkness to light."

Hi, everyone, and I hope you are all having a leisurely Thanksgiving weekend. I was so tired from cooking all day on Thursday (never again!) that I did not have the energy to type, and then yesterday our family went to Yosemite. It was certainly beautiful there, with lots of active waterfalls, searingly bright autumn leaves on the trees--red, orange, gold and brown--and quite a bit of snow on the ground. Everyone was driving really slow, especially my husband because after the first time he slid across an icy one-lane road he got tired of looking at my hand clutching the door handle in sheer terror. I did NOT want to end up several hundred feet below in some remote and freezing ravine.

What did everyone have to feast on, anyway? Have you all finished your holiday shopping yet?

Oh, this little essay expresses some of my feelings perfectly!!!
