I'm not totally sure the D's wouldn't do this- though I have not seen them do anything like this, but the republicans right now are definitely worse than anything I can remember seeing in my lifetime. I'm sure they think they can sabotage things and then turn them around, but they are dancing on the edge of a tightrope, wrt the economy, and that's a huge, and unsupportable, risk to take with the future of the whole country. They are poor and irresponsible stewards, and they should be thoroughly punished for their bad behavior. We'll have to see what the voters think about that.

I agree with this but much of the electorate seems, while seeing it this way, to consider it simply politics as usual, and as Benen says, it's still the president's responsibility to find a way around it.

The Obama folk have done a very poor job of the PR on this as well as other areas.
