Re: "The government used its influence to tilt the way the bankruptcy happened."

OF COURSE THEY DID!

(As I have explained multiple times....)

But *NOT* as the 'government' exerting some sort of malign or illegal influence... as the formally approved by the bankruptcy court "Debtor in Possession" (DIB), a formal status of long standing in American corporate bankruptcy proceedings.

ANYONE could have chosen to put up the funding necessary to keep operations going long enough for the bankruptcy court to finish the bankruptcy process --- and thus been the one granted DIB status by the court.

Absolutely ANYONE.

But they searched the world and no one else stepped forward.

They asked the Saudis, the various sovereign wealth funds around the world, hedge funds (including specifically Romney's Bain Capital <g>).

But no other investor would put up the funding required to prevent a disorderly collapse and ultimate liquidation.

So the US government did and was granted the formal status of Debtor in Possession by the court.

And succeeded.
