you go to the Lincoln or Jefferson memorials in Washington, you are invited to look up in admiration. Lincoln and Jefferson are presented as the embodiments of just authority. They are strong and powerful but also humanized. Jefferson is a graceful aristocratic democrat. Lincoln is sober and enduring. Both used power in the service of higher ideas, which are engraved nearby on the walls.

I found a couple of quotes by Lincoln that would shock the hell out of his current day Republican counterparts.

When and why have we become so mean spirited............willing to have some prima donna college grad make millions doing human resource work while screwing the guy working his ass off at hard labor. Guys are ashamed to be finish carpenters when they should be proud to be craftsmen. Everything is a bit twisted.

Pretty much, yeah. Free money, easy money. The idea of giving it up makes people suddenly selfish. Take it away from the other guy. etc.. Blame it on the other guy. Psychological ramifications of a bubble aftermath are mind boggling. Particularly politically when it can be used as more divide and conquer.
