I don't know a lot of educators who act that way any more. It seems to me it was sort of an 70's and 80's movement- that whole "Everyone is wonderful" sort of thing.

Maybe elementary is like that- but I doubt it. It's all become very test driven, and focusing on that means kids know where they stand. I get a lot of depressed students- because I often teach remedial classes, because I like seeing a huge difference in the students I teach. The important thing to drum in is that where ever you are, you can make a start now on making yourself better. And hard work can compensate for a lot of failings. I think if an employer gets a students who will work very hard, and be polite and cheerful, that makes up for a lot of other failings. Not all, but a lot.
