I agree with you, but the whole thing was set in place with the removal of the Glass-Steagall Act under Clinton's watch.

The genesis of the financial collapse lies in the housing bubble.

Many millions of middle class families participated in the housing bubble, and to completely assign blame, they would have to admit that they were greedy and stupid. Doesn't seem like a great campaign strategy, even if you succeed in blaming the Dems.
