This is a novel kind of leak scandal. Normally, enemies of the administration leak to hurt the administration, like the CIA did to GW Bush. But here, Obama's chief of staff and NSC leaked to help the boss, make him look tough. You don't have to investigate, David Sanger practically tells you who talked to him; it was lots of people.

I think they are so political in the Obama White House that nobody in the meeting was able to assess the national security implications.
