But if anyone wants to disagree with the thesis that the deep south is relatively more anti-intellectual than the north, west or eastern parts of our nation, I'd be happy to hear the basis for that. Ed
Just to keep matters clear, Ed, that's not the thesis under debate. You jumped into a debate about a different but related topic, the claim that the south was anti-intellectual. Definitely not the same claim as your statement above.

Look- I suggested ways to tell if people really are anti-intellectual. I don't care what sort of proof you use- but something would be nice. There must be many proxies, statistically, for intellectualism, and for anti-intellectualism.

And it's clear the subtext of calling people anti-intellectual, is that you're calling them stupid. At least that's what I am calling people, when I call them anti-intellectual. I think anti-intellectual people are dumber than dirt. And when you couple anti-intellectualism with a desire to enjoy the best in medicine and science, brought to you by intellectuals, then you've got folks who are dumber than dirt who are also big ass hypocrites.

Now if we're going to regionalize these sorts of things. I'd like proof. I know these folks are out there- heck I've seen them on SI- but I would never blame one region of the country for them, absent proof.
