Because the people I was referring to have repeatedly based their opinions on purported facts which are demonstrably false...thereby showing their belief to be either illogical or completely unsupported by argument. If they merely said they believed in God without evidence of any kind, their opinion would be based on nothing--but at least it would not be completely risible! In other words, when one asserts a belief that MUST be false( if grade school science is true), it carries no weight and ought to attract no respect. My opinion that there are no flying spaghetti monsters and no gods does not violate any evidence or science, so it is a statement of probability. In case you are unclear on my atheistic comment that there is no god--let me be clear. What that means is that I believe that the probability of God is so miniscule (considering that the idea is absurd in the first place, and has never had a shred of evidence in the second), that my belief might be true (and probably is). You cannot prove a negative so obviously I cannot offer proof there is no flying spaghetti monster. But I have no time to waste considering absurd ideas. There is no scientific basis for an invisible being having any of the attributes normally attributed to the myriad "gods" imagined by people. Until there is a scientific or factual basis for invisible beings of that sort, I will keep my world tidy by knowing what I do and do not believe in--and why!? I use the same technique with talking donkeys, unicorns, wood nymphs, and Ents--so please do not feel I am picking on you! Those who assert a belief which directly violates accepted facts are not entitled to have their opinion respected by people of Reason and Sound Mind.
