When I was in college I met some obnoxious far left types. But it may just be age- I don't know anyone like that now. I don't think we have a single friend who would talk loudly, in a restaurant (for example), about politics. And the only folks we've been seated by who have done that, are right wing types. So maybe, it's a money and age thing. In middle age it's possible there just aren't that many loud radical leftists dining at fine restaurants, but I guarantee you there are some loud obnoxious right wing types- because we've heard them. And the only really obnoxiously political person from my high school reunion is a tea bagger type. She is constantly posting insulting crap about liberals. And the funny thing is, most of our class probably is liberal- but no one says anything insulting to her (except her own daughter- which cracks me up). So my experience is different from yours. But I'll allow for the possibility that things might be even.
