A ballot measure requiring labeling of all genetically engineered foods has qualified for the November ballot, California's Secretary of State Debra Bowen announced Monday. The "California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act" needed 504,760 verified signatures of registered voters to qualify, and "it exceeded that threshold" on Monday, Bowen said. Proponents delivered a total of 971,126 signatures to the state's 58 county registrars on May 2, exceeding their goal of 800,000 signatures. Mendocino County activists gathered 10,000 signatures, said Willits area coordinator Sara O'Brien. "If people are interested in helping with this next phase," O'Brien said, "which would be gathering endorsements from businesses and individuals, as well as educating the public, particularly families and mothers, about the dangers of GMOs, they can sign up at www.labelgmos.org/volunteering." Mendocino County was the first jurisdiction in the United States to ban GMOs (genetically modified organisms) from being grown and propagated in the county, passing Measure H in 2004 with 56.99 percent of the vote

Saying GMO rice, or corn, or soy is an ingredient in something isn't going to harm anyone's patent. That's all most people want. GMO producers don't want to label your food to even tell you what you are eating.
