What advanced was the substitute of blood animal sacrifice for a precious "man's" sacrifice , a great deal can be built up into this imagery and already had in the legend myths of hero's & Gods that preceded . One can safely assume that in a dying falling empire desperately seeking to save itself the draw for an eternal life cult would be immense . In an economically collapsing empire, the worship of "One God" just from an expedient pov far less taxing than the inordinate amount of expenditures of maintaining so many Temples for an extended pantheon of a 1000yrs .
