I sense doubt in you about the 60's being about existentialism and not the Viet Nam war. It was the existential awareness that allowed all the great ideas of the 60's to manifest. The reality to allow us to question what our government was doing in Viet Nam, laws and culture supporting segregation, womens lib, gay rights, the environment, self actualization. You are entitled to your opinion, but I'd like you to find any 3rd party academic to agree with you (based on research) that it was "existentialism" that drove the 60's student protest movement. Of course all great thinkers have been misunderstood before their enlightenment was acknowledged and this may be the case here.
