"But if their thoughts are merely accidental by-products...why should we believe them to be true"

The theory is that evolution has resulted in the survival of behaviors (including thought) that conform to the reality of the universe and that this reality is real. Our ability to use science to predict suggests that this is true. In this respect, the attribute of reason developed over billions of years through behaviours that either worked or did not work. Those that did not work were, of course, extinguished.

Obviously, humanity still knows very little indeed so that the questions of determinism and free will fill thousands of books of profound and often incompatible thought.

"If the solar system was brought about by an accidental collision, then the appearance of organic life on this planet was also an accident, and the whole evolution of Man was an accident too.

There's 200-400bil stars out there and most all have solar systems , thats 200-400bil "accidents" and we don't have to reason we only have to open our eyes , man our telescopes and observe !

If so, then all our thought processes are mere accidents-the accidental by-product of the movement of atoms.

Well alot of your thoughts maybe just accidents of atoms banging willy nilly in a jar , yes i think so !
