I went to Batoche.. Very interesting presentation by Parks Canada.. a bit different in French.. A group of elderly Francophones on the theatre were actually shocked at what they heard of John A's opinion of the French.. Anyway yeah that whole 49th parallel thing was invisible to them.. Gabriel fled south after Batoche..I have a Dumont Tee-Shirt.. pretty close to this image.. but more of the body.. Not a proud day for Canada nor the Mounties.. (but they've had a string of bad days through history.. and recently) I am thinking of places like red stick and the monks :O)
