I've always said that banking should be boring. There is no way to manage the complexity these guys are inventing, and there sure as hell is no way for the government to regulate it. The complexity these guys build is done by MIT grads, while we hire community college grads in the government to police them, then we underfund those regulatory agencies, and then to make damn sure they are ineffective, we hire the top brass in those regulatory agencies from the companies they are supposed to regulate. The whole game is rigged to lose.

There is only one solution. We need to use our government to break up the big banks, clear the debt through bankruptcy, sell off the pieces, bring back Glass Steagal, and unwind the financialization of our economy. Let's focus this countries smartest people on the part of the economy that makes real goods and services that are long term sustainable, not letting them be lured by the financial industry to create more financial weapons of mass destruction.

Banking should be boring. When it gets exciting and interesting, everyone should remember that an ancient Chinese CURSE, when thus: "May you live in interesting times."
