There is an effort to establish a meme that West Virginia is the most racist state in the union. Listening to some talk show in the car Sunday (not People's Radio) the host interviewed a PHD candidate who did a study of how many google searches on the the word "niger" were performed by state. He took that and extrapolated all manner of absurd conclusion. Including that Obama's race hurt him more then helped him in 2008, And that West Virginia is the most racist state in the union. Keep your eye out. I'm sure you'll be reading about this study.

“I intend to spend this fall focused on the people of West Virginia, whether that’s representing them in my official U.S. Senate duties or here at home, where I can hear about their concerns and ideas to solve the problems of this great nation,” said Manchin in a statement. “I will remain focused on bringing people together for the next generation, not the next election.” The best thing Manchin could do to represent the interests of the people of West Virginia is to convert to being a Republican or, better yet, to the Tea Party.
