Craig - a couple of points on the INTC threat to NICs. INTC at one time led the external Fast Ethernet market, but has lost share every quarter for the past year as COMS introduced their own silicon. You're seeing the same thing happen with embedded NICs. COMS has another round of silicon that will ship in December that will allow for higher performance and much greater margins.

Your statements on Compaq and Intel gunning for COMS low end business, while true, do not mean they will be successful. The facts support the assertion that COMS has held its own and gained share in this space over the last several years.

On the RAC side, Total Control is now shipping their HiPer card that significantly boosts port density and margins. Cisco does not have a competing product in this space, and I believe over time you will see most of their remote access gains in the smaller ISPs.

I agree with you that networking is becoming a game for the big boys only, and that you must have critical mass to survive. Where we disagree evidently is that I believe COMS has this, and you don't.

Need advice. I have a truckload of Jan 35 calls (I know, I know-they're from last June/July). Think it's worth it to roll out till May? Will another quarter help inventory problems, competitive threat, or only compound it? With internet growth alone 30% per quarter, I find it hard to believe Eric and co. (company of the year in '96) can't restore some of their former luster.
