<<How much lower we can go?>>

As I have stated here before, I do not exepct this company to move until 1Q98. There are 2 reasons for this: (i) portfolio managers are not now initiating new positions given the closeness of the year end; and (i)net cash inflows to funds and institutional investors are at 12 month seasonal lows. Bear in mind that most of the money entering the market is deferred compensation plan contributions made by employers and that the lion's share of those contributions are made in the 90 day period following the employer's fiscal year end. How many companies do you know that have fye's in August, September and October? Ever notice how the net inflows reported by ICI in the WSJ tend to tail off in October, November and December? Ever wonder why these tend to be dangerous months for the market? I'm not a timer, but I will admit that I do a lot of selling into the September market (which is driven, IMO, by deferred comp. contributions from all of the state and local governments that fye 6/30) and a lot of buying in October, November and December. It's like hunting season, and it's been a great season this year.

Can't wait for the new year...

Regards,

John
