That's why I had my son take martial arts when he was 6 years old. He is 12 now and a back belt. He is very polite to everyone because of his training. <g> He is continuing his training.

I think an in-person apology along with a two-page single-spaced apology hand-delivered would be more effective. And the first 3 attempts at the written apology would be rejected and sent back for further rewriting. Then a month's-free worth of video games. Add in chores he may not be doing - dishes, taking out the trash, poop-patrol, etc.
