That's exactly the point: Why migrate to the artic during an ice age? I don't think the animals did that. And without animals, no meat to eat.

It all started in warmer places and move to warm places. Once in warmer places as an ice age began, they looked for places near water bodies which weren't frozen.
Compare Nova Scotia with Labrador.

It may be the case that some stayed on and on, and slowly adapted to the colder conditions and moved in front of the ice plunging southwards.
