Exactly which feature in the future, unreleased WP8 core has you so hot and bothered that you couldn't live without in on your Lumia 900?

Its a fantastic 4G 4" LTE phone, great value, selling well, top reviews, super screen great camera - BFD if it doesn't have hardware specs required for WP8. WP7 continues to be enhanced; the Lumia 900 will get the (future) WP 7.8 upgrade, and theres lots of software - much of it exclusive, coming for the Nokia Lumia line. I wouldn't be surprised if there are continued OS enhancements of the (reduced resource) CE core far beyond the release of the (NT core) WP8.

I can guarantee you that the iPhone 4S won't ever get a 4G LTE upgrade (the 4's OTA 4G upgrade was really a miracle, wasn't it?). The Lumia definitely isn't getting software downgrades, like replacing a great mapping software with inferior in-house substitute from Apple. Microsoft also doesn't deliver a feature-stripped upgrade either. You get it or you don't. Calling a feature stripped upgrade "the same" upgrade as others got is euphemistic propaganda. Thats fancy for a lie.

Why don't you go write a blog post about how Apple is screwing all their customers by selling a 3G 3 1/2 inch phone that won't ever be upgradeable, and switching to a new proprietary docking port from their old one, forcing all their users to chuck their overpriced accessories, and spam that all over SI? Only this time, put some spaces between your paragraphs, and read your work before you post it - or let us in on what it means to be stabbed in the back "my" an ego maniacal partner.

The Nokia-Microsoft Strategic Partnership ...

richieb,

<< Nokia should have known better than partner with Microsoft >>

With all due (or not due) respect that is a very dumb statement, whether you make it or the pulp press and wingbats like Rich Birecki do.

<< Does anyone know why specifically Softy decided not to let the upgrade take place? >>

The decision was most likely one that Microsoft and Nokia arrived at jointly. Most certainly Nokia's inputs were taken into account and those will ripple through the evolved OS with its new kernel. Nokia inherited a Microsoft developed chassis spec and OS fitted to it that they had no inputs into developing. That spec was hardly leading edge at the time the first WinPhones hit the market in late 2010 before the partnership was established. Considerably more powerful multi-core silicon will be used to power WinPhone 8 and competitive products. Backwards comparability for the lowest common denominator of older equipment would be exceptionally burdensome excess baggage to account for. The WinPhone base is still small enough not to have to carry it. Short term pain, long term gain drove the decision, I suspect that WinPhone 7.8 will be around for a long time and will power phones that are competitive with the low-end Androids that as a practical matter can not power ICS, and will never be upgraded beyond Android 2.3x.

By the way Rich B, are you by any chance related to the famous Rich Birecki of "Rich Makes You Rich" at richmakesyourich.com that you linked?

Talk about the generation of "noise" and the pulp press.
