With Windows phone 8, more significant than the native code is the shared code with Windows. If you follow Microsoft's logic, the potential Windows 8 userbase will drive app development, and the ease with which devs can port those apps to Windows Phone 8 will will drive app development for that platform. In that way, the numbers favor WP8 rather than WP7. Not sure whether it will shake out like that, but I don't believe "business as usual" for app development is what Microsoft is shooting for in switching the phone kernel.

Wrt the start screen, not really happy with the edge to edge tiles. There will be fewer tiles visible vertically if you stick with the classic tile sizes.
