The conservative movement in the US has gone off a rail
They have gone off the rail after an "African-American" came to occupy the White House. Before that all was fine and dandy. I have a friend who said that her now deceased grandfather, who immigrated from Poland always told his children and grandchildren that "America is for White Christians" And then she proceeded to say that he must be turning in his grave these days. It is a disgrace to see that racism still persists here and what is worse is that these folks who believe in racism express them as an undercurrent and do not have the guts to come out for it.

I agree with you that Obama's election made the situation much, much worse but the extremism of current conservatism I think had its roots back in the time of Reagan. That's when the concept for Fox News, conservative think tanks, tax cuts for the rich and trickle down economic theories were borne.

As for Obama's election, those of us who went to urban schools in blue states were taught that anyone could be president of the US...........white, brown, black, purple. Apparently, that was not taught in red state schools.
