I think there are a number of devastating issues at play.

One, Nokia killed Symbian, which was just fine, at the time it got shot. I have the Nokia 808 on per-order, so I for one definitely think Symbian is an OS that can be lived with, for three years or so.

Two, for many reasons, the Lumia line is not taking off. Out of the gate the flagship 900 had a tech glitch, so they had to refund $100 per unit until they fixed the bug. Now they're giving the Lumia 900 away, for a penny.

Three, Microsoft bought Skype, slapped it into its phone OS, and carriers got pissed off to the point of boycotting Windows phones.

Four, Microsoft made Windows 7 a dead end product.

Five, Windows 8 phones won't come out until end of the year.

Six, as for the phones themselves? They're average. On par with the competition. Definitely not iPhone or Android killers. Average storage, average camera, fewer apps than competition, ugly interface filled with ugly colors. Too little, way too late.

May have forgotten something but think the above pretty much covers the gist of it.

OT: Just looked up the threads you moderate: Silicon Investor (SI) -- Invest This!

Most - if not all - of those tickers seem not to be trading. What's up with that?
