I don't buy insurance for normal maintenance to my car. I buy insurance for when I crash my car. Same concept for medical in my book.

Precisely. And that is one of the major things that is wrong with our current concept of health insurance.

Insurance doesn't cover oil changes. It doesn't cover replacement of the ice maker, or carpet cleaning when needed.

And it shouldn't cover that pulled muscle in your thigh, or the cut on your finger that should be adequately handled by some Neosporin and a band-aid.
