With Agriculture, the barriers to entry are greater, and the learning curve is more complex (as Ish pointed out). Victor Hanson, in an article that was posted here recently, relates that farmers in California are making tons of money, and apparently many of them have become managers, hiring people to do the actual work. They are benefiting from the globalization of the food markets. When we are shocked at the increasing food prices, that is, in part, due to the current global supply and demand balance.
